What is a signet ring?
One flat raised face on the front of the band. It began as a functional object for stamping wax and has ended up as one of the cleanest shapes you can wear.
A signet catches light in a single wide sweep rather than sparkling, which makes it quieter than a stone but far more noticeable than a plain band. Ours uses a heart-shaped face instead of the traditional oval, which softens it without making it sweet.
Best on: the little finger for the classic look, or the index finger if you want it seen.
What is an infinity ring?
A sideways figure of eight lying across the finger. Two loops, no start and no end.
Because it runs across the finger rather than around it, it occupies more visual space than its slim band suggests. It comes plain and set with clear stones, and the difference matters: the plain one disappears into a stack, the stone-set one leads it. There is also a version with openwork detail inside each loop for anyone who finds the plain shape too simple.
Best on: most fingers. One of the safer shapes to buy without trying on first.
What is a chevron or peak ring?
A band that rises to a point. A chevron makes a shallow V, a peak goes taller and more triangular.
These change the look of a hand more than any other shape. A point directed towards the fingertip visually lengthens the finger. Worn the other way round it does the opposite, so check the orientation when you put it on.
Best on: longer fingers carry the taller peak comfortably. Shorter fingers do better with the shallow chevron.
What is a wave or squiggle ring?
A soft S-curve across the top of the finger, or in its looser form a continuous looping line.
Waves are the friendliest shape to stack with, because a curve sits against a straight band without either fighting the other. The stone-set wave is the quietest sparkling ring we make. The squiggle is the most casual, and being open it forgives a size either way.
Best on: anyone who wants shape without formality.
What is a cutout band?
A wider band with the pattern cut right through the metal, so light passes between the shapes. Linked open hearts and small repeating flowers are the two we stock.
The cutouts do real work. They keep a wider band from feeling heavy, and they mean the ring looks finished from every angle rather than having a plain back to hide.
Best on: wearing alone, where the pattern has room to be read.
What is a link or chain ring?
A band built from flat links, so it looks like a chain wrapped around the finger while staying rigid and comfortable. Nothing twists, nothing snags.
The chain link band repeats the links all the way round. The oval link ring puts one larger open link at the front. Both pair naturally with a chain bracelet or pendant without having to match exactly.
Best on: anyone already wearing chain jewellery elsewhere.
What about a plain band with one small motif?
A fine band carrying a single shape, small enough to read as a detail rather than decoration. A single tiny star, or a star beside a plain dot, which is the version that stops it looking like novelty jewellery.
Best on: stacking, and anyone who finds a fully plain band boring but wants nothing loud.
